Fine Arts Program
Through the experience of singing, moving, playing instruments, and improvising, children experience another type of learning. These developing skills encourage and engage students in other subject areas, through exposure to a wide variety of mathematic, cultural and historical subjects. The students will learn better coordination and enhance their vocabularies, while gaining confidence and learning to express themselves in a new way. Our students will study a variety of musical styles and genres; learn about their origins and their relation to other disciplines.
The upper grades will learn rhythmic/melodic notation and advance their ability to read music. All students will participate in playing a variety of instruments, listening and assessing different elements of music, examine techniques for proper instrumental and vocal performance, and will learn appropriate vocabulary for discussing music. We will prepare music as a whole school for the Christmas Pageant. We will also prepare for Mass both musically and spiritually, learning more about our faith through song.
During our time in Art, we will learn about colors, lines, shapes, patterns, and lots of new and exciting supplies. Art projects will reinforce lessons learned in the Pre-K room including letters and numbers. Every Friday, we will also have a "choice" day. On this day every week, children will have the opportunity to choose an activity that will help build problem-solving skills and fine-motor skills including working with clay, lacing, beading, and drawing.
KinderScholar's - 4th Grades
During the elementary years, we will focus on learning the fundamental elements of Art to give students a good basis upon which to build as they mature and grow as artists. We will also begin learning about different artists as well as Art from different world cultures. Throughout these years, students learn about the properties of specific materials and processes of making art. Students in each grade will have the opportunity to work in 2-D and 3-D forms.
5th - 8th Grades
The middle school years focus on building skill level and mastery in the fundamentals of Art as well as learning new processes and materials. During class we will be experimenting with new processes including printmaking, clay sculpture, painting with acrylic and watercolor paints, and using multiple forms of dry media. Through this experimentation, students will be able to discover the unique properties of each media and process and when to appropriately use each. We will also focus on learning about artists in historical context as well as different art movements throughout time. By the end of the middle school years, students will be prepared for high-school level art classes and programs in multiple disciplines within the Visual Arts.
